ThunderRidge stayed inside its football family when naming a new coach.

Grizzlies athletic director Sean Patterson announced on Tuesday morning that it had hired Doug Nisenson as its new football coach.

A former Grizzlies player, he coached in Arizona and North Carolina before returning to become an assistant at ThunderRidge in 2013. Last season, Nisenson was the defensive coordinator.

"Doug's passion, enthusiasm, and commitment will spill over to his players, coaches, and ThunderRidge community," Patterson said.

Nisenson played at ThunderRidge from 2002-05, and was part of Class 4A championship teams in 2004 and 2005. The Grizzlies went undefeated in 2005.

Nisenson replaces Joe Johnson, who accepted the job at Cherokee Trail in February.
