Fossil Ridge has hired Zak Bigelow as its football coach, Poudre School District athletic director Ron Alexander announced on Monday afternoon.

Bigelow, a 2006 graduate of Dakota Ridge, has spent all of his coaching career to this point in college football, most recently as an assistant director of football operations at Oregon State for the past two seasons. He was also the director of football operations at Northern Colorado (2013-14), a graduate assistant at Tulsa (2011-12), and offensive quality coach at Northern Colorado (2010).

Bigelow played football at Northern Colorado as a kicker from 2006-09. He received a master's degree from Tulsa in business administration in 2013.

"Zak was chosen from an outstanding pool of candidates that applied for this position," Alexander said in a press release. "The combination of Zak's character, passion, leadership and wealth of football experience led the hiring committee and myself to choose Zak as the next leader of the Sabercat football program. As impressive as Zak is on the field, he is even more impressive as a leader of young people. We are pleased to have Zak as a part of the PSD family."

Said Bigelow in a statement: "My wife and I are Colorado kids and we are excited to be coming back home. We met at the University of Northern Colorado, as student-athletes, and can’t express to you how passionate we are about Poudre School District and the Fort Collins community. After ten years in college football, I feel very blessed to be coming home to a job that I am proud to call a dream job."

Bigelow replaces Brian Tinker, who was let go this offseason. Tinker's teams were 10-10 in two seasons.

Fossil Ridge, a Class 5A program which went 5-5 last season, returns a considerable amount of talent next season.
